Hitch Was Ahead of His Time
Thankfully the above photo does not depict an actual remake of the Alfred Hitchcock classic, although rumors of a modern-day take on The Birds have been floating around the Hollywood factories since 2007. Development on the remake has apparently stalled, and it’s just as well. Hitchcock, the Skipper of Suspense, was a film-industry pioneer who believed that a great thriller was nothing without a compelling, original story to keep the audience engaged. (Take note, M. Night.) He, more than anyone, would have hated Hollywood’s endless fascination with its own past. Pick up a copy of Tortured Artists to read more about Hitch’s personal demons, along with those of many other filmmakers, musicians, artists, and authors. I would love it if you did.
