The Cult of the 27 Club

Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse all died at the age of 27. Their legacies are part of a dubious mythology known as the 27 Club.
My article on The Huffington Post talks about the cult of the 27 Club one year after the death of Amy Winehouse. Is this kind of rock mythology good for music? Or is it damaging to the legacy of talented but tortured musicians? From the article:
You can believe in these constructs or not, but you can’t deny that they spark some great debates at parties. The fact that Winehouse died at 27, as opposed to 28 or 29, means her legacy will always be held up against those that have written the narrative for modern music.
